He received his post-graduate medical training by completing a rotating internship at Montefiore Hospital in Pittsburgh, and an orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Iowa. He was a Captain in the United States Air Force, and is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic surgery. Dr. Ackerman has been in private practice in the Washington Metropolitan Area since 1969.
